Well Person Monitoring and the Nutraceuticals
Nutraceuticals
KSL has been developing unique products that are used to measure the antioxidant capacity of blood and other physiological media as well as foods, ingredients in foods, cosmetics and nutraceuticals. A new ABEL-RAC™ method for quantifying relative antioxidant capacity has been developed at KSL. ABEL-RAC™ scores are per mg of material or finished product and are further defined for particular free radical or non-radical reactive species. ABEL-RAC™ scores can be used directly on package labels, to measure batch to batch uniformity, shelf life, for QC during manufacture and QA of products, assessing loss of antioxidant capacity as a result of exposure to light and air during manufacture of products as well as by irradiation and for monitoring the activity of the finished products.
Well Person Monitoring
KSL has been involved in a number of research projects in which its ABEL total antioxidant capacity (TAC) assay has been used. ABEL-TAC™ requires no more than a finger prick of blood and gives a numerical score, derived from a set of antioxidant standards. The ABEL® score may be used as the basis of dietary and other advice given by nutritionists, dieticians and medical practitioners to their patients/clients.
